At the center of the mesmerizing rolling hills, lived a shepherd boy. His being was pure, simple yet virtuous. His primary duty was mainly to tend to his herd of ewes.

Their low murmuring and the whispering of the gales through the solo tree on the peak were his constant companions. Day upon day, watching over his charges imbued in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. On one such day because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous plot.

Narratives of wolves prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy chose to exploit this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.

One morning he raced into here the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills to help but saw no wolf.

The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This game continued for a couple of more days. But, one morning, a real wolf actually charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is tough to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
